Knight Organizes Relocation of Ukrainian Refugees
0:00
After Russian forces bombed the Ukranian city of Gostomel, residents were forced to flee their homes to places such as the Seminary of the Archdiocese of Lviv, Ukraine and to the Polish-Ukrainian border. While documenting the Order’s humanitarian work in Poland and Ukraine, Tamino Petelinšek — a Slovenian photographer and a member of Lt. Gen. Timothy J. Maude Council 10292 in Rhein Main, Germany — worked with the Knights of Columbus to arrange buses from the Order’s Mercy Center in Hrebenne to his native country, where Caritas Slovenia is assisting the refugees with housing, schooling, medical care and jobs. The first bus arrived there March 22; a second arrived April 3. As Easter approaches amid war and in Ukraine, the words of Venerable Fulton Sheen give perspective: “Evil has its hour, but God has his day.” The Knights of Columbus is continuing to bring hope for Ukrainian refugees through the Order’s Ukraine Solidarity Fund, which is providing temporary shelter, food, medical supplies, clothing and religious supplies for those in need. 100% of your gift to the fund will go directly to these displaced people.
