On April 13, Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly met with Knights in Radom, Poland, to thank them for their continued efforts on behalf of Ukrainian refugees. Prior to the visit, the Knights assembled 5,000 Easter care packages — filled with supplies to help Ukrainian families celebrate Easter — and opened a parish-based Mercy Center, helping to integrate Ukrainian refugees in the community and provide material aid. The following day, the supreme knight visited a retreat center outside of Częstochowa, Poland, that now serves as an orphanage for approximately 100 Ukrainian children displaced by the war. After visiting the center, which is operated by Caritas of Częstochowa and supported by the Order’s Ukraine Solidarity Fund, the supreme knight visited St. Wojciech Parish in Częstochowa, where he greeted refugees at the parish’s Knights of Columbus Mercy Center and met with members of the Poland State Council. On March 16, the family made a pilgrimage to New Haven, Conn., where they visited with Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly at the Supreme Council headquarters and gave thanks at St. Mary’s Church for the intercession of Blessed Michael McGivney.

Knight Provides Housing for Ukrainian Refugees

Adam Weigel, a member of St. Brother Albert Chmielowski Council 15128 in Kraków, Poland, operates a transportation and mechanics company that ships goods all over Europe. On Feb. 24, he learned of the Russian invasion of Ukraine from an employee originally from Kharkiv, in eastern Ukraine. He told the employee that any relatives who were still there would have a place to stay in a large housing unit near the company’s headquarters. Weigel and his wife have since welcomed and provided aid for more than 39 Ukrainian refugees. Speaking of his identity as a Knight of Columbus, Weigel said, “Our mission was given to us by Blessed Father Michael McGivney. He was combating the effects of industrialization on family life and working toward unity. And by a complete accident, I find myself working toward the same goal now.” Become a Knight: http://kofc.org/joinus Subscribe now to keep up with the Knights! http://bit.ly/SubscribeKnightsOfColumbus Stay connected on social media: https://www.facebook.com/KnightsofColumbus https://twitter.com/kofc https://www.instagram.com/kofc_official Visit us at: http://www.kofc.org
