Thousands of boxes of food and essential supplies for people displaced by war arrived in Ukraine during May and June via the Knights of Columbus Charity Convoy. The Charity Convoy initiative began weeks after the Russian invasion, as the Order started working with Ukrainian trucking companies to send shipments — funded by the Ukraine Solidarity Fund — from warehouses in Poland across the border. Cardinal Timothy Dolan, archbishop of New York, recently led a delegation that included representatives of the archdiocese and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA), for which he serves as chairman, to Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine. During the trip, His Eminence visited with displaced Ukrainians and praised the humanitarian efforts of the Knights of Columbus and other Catholic organizations. On May 2, he celebrated Mass at the Order’s Mercy Center in Hrebenne — at the Polish-Ukrainian border — and visited the Mercy Center at St. Klemens Hofbauer Parish in Warsaw. Both centers are operated in partnership with CNEWA.

Not Forgotten
0:00
Russian forces captured the port city of Kherson, Ukraine, in March 2022. In the occupation that followed, fearful families lived without access to many essential supplies and services. When Kherson was finally liberated in November 2022, Knights of Columbus in Poltava, Ukraine, immediately delivered truckloads of care packages filled with food, clothing and more. “This is very significant support for the people, both materially and morally,” said Yaroslav Fomiv, a Knight in Kherson who helped to unload and distribute the supplies. “Because people feel they are not forgotten and that people care.” Become a Knight today: http://kofc.org/join Subscribe now to keep up with the Knights! http://bit.ly/SubscribeKnightsOfColumbus Stay connected on social media: https://www.facebook.com/KnightsofColumbus https://twitter.com/kofc https://www.instagram.com/kofc_official Visit us at: http://www.kofc.org

K of C Family Answers Call to Shelter Refugees
0:00
When the invasion of Ukraine began, the Poland State Council notified Knights of Columbus leaders that they were gathering names and contact information of individuals and families who could accept refugees from Ukraine. Włodzimierz Stec, grand knight of Our Lady of La Salette Council 15142 in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, in central Poland, and his wife, Edyta, agreed to house at least four people. On March 5, Włodzimierz received a call that a family from Kremenchuk, in central Ukraine — Alina and her three sons, 2-year-old Zahar, 6-year-old Makar and 9-year-old Maksym — needed a place to stay. The Stecs took in the family, and though welcoming a trio of rambunctious children into their home has brought big changes to their normally tranquil life, the Stecs practice patience, knowing that the most important thing is to help those in need. “We give them everything we can: that is love, above all care and prayer,” Włodzimierz said. Knight Organizes Relocation of Ukrainian Refugees
0:00
After Russian forces bombed the Ukranian city of Gostomel, residents were forced to flee their homes to places such as the Seminary of the Archdiocese of Lviv, Ukraine and to the Polish-Ukrainian border. While documenting the Order’s humanitarian work in Poland and Ukraine, Tamino Petelinšek — a Slovenian photographer and a member of Lt. Gen. Timothy J. Maude Council 10292 in Rhein Main, Germany — worked with the Knights of Columbus to arrange buses from the Order’s Mercy Center in Hrebenne to his native country, where Caritas Slovenia is assisting the refugees with housing, schooling, medical care and jobs. The first bus arrived there March 22; a second arrived April 3.
