Floyd Patterson was one of the greatest boxers of all time, with 55 wins, an Olympic gold medal and two Fighter of the Year awards. In 1991, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. But less well- known was Patterson’s deep Catholic faith. In retirement, he joined the Knights of Columbus in New Paltz, N.Y., and took great joy serving as a eucharisitc minister at the local nursing home. Called the “Gentleman of Boxing” at his death in 2006, he was remembered for his kindness and integrity.
