El 14 de abril, comenzaron una novena y le entregaron su seguridad a san José de Kalisz. Sin que lo supieran, el mismo día, Heinrich Himmler firmó una orden para la ejecución de todos los prisioneros de Dachau. Nueve días después, más de 800 prisioneros se consagraron a san José. Dachau fue liberado por tropas aliadas el 29 de abril, solo horas antes de la orden de Himmler.
