Supreme Knight Visits Poland and Ukraine
0:00
At the beginning of Holy Week, Pope Francis granted a private audience with Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly, during which they discussed the Order’s work for those affected by the war in Ukraine. Pope Francis then blessed a very special Easter basket, representative of 10,000 care packages, assembled by Knights in Poland and distributed to displaced families in Ukraine during Holy Week to help them celebrate Easter, both Latin and Eastern rites. Supreme Knight Kelly then traveled to Poland to visit with Knights serving refugees and helped load Easter care packages onto the latest “K of C Charity Convoy” of trucks bringing supplies into Ukraine. The supreme knight proceeded to visit the Order’s Mercy Center in Hrebenne, then crossed the border into Ukraine, delivering additional Easter care packages to families taking refuge at a 14th-century monastery in Rava Ruska, in the Archdiocese of Lviv, Ukraine. There, the supreme knight also met with Ukrainian Knights and ceremonially installedUkraine State Deputy Youriy Maletskiy. In the summer of 2022, the Knights of Columbus partnered with the Zustricz Foundation to provide funding for summer accommodations for Ukrainian students studying in Poland who couldn’t return home due to the war. These accommodations provided them with a safe place to live and with support services such as counseling to help them through the burden of not being able to return home. Knight Organizes Relocation of Ukrainian Refugees
0:00
After Russian forces bombed the Ukranian city of Gostomel, residents were forced to flee their homes to places such as the Seminary of the Archdiocese of Lviv, Ukraine and to the Polish-Ukrainian border. While documenting the Order’s humanitarian work in Poland and Ukraine, Tamino Petelinšek — a Slovenian photographer and a member of Lt. Gen. Timothy J. Maude Council 10292 in Rhein Main, Germany — worked with the Knights of Columbus to arrange buses from the Order’s Mercy Center in Hrebenne to his native country, where Caritas Slovenia is assisting the refugees with housing, schooling, medical care and jobs. The first bus arrived there March 22; a second arrived April 3. In 2018, they added two more members to the family — Cazimir and Henrik — both who are children with special needs from Ukraine. Several years later, when the invasion of Ukraine began, the Ampes knew they had to help. Together with local Knights of Columbus, they collected and delivered medical supplies for a hospital in Ukraine and raised more than $200,000 in support. Bringing Hope to Ukraine
0:00
In war-torn Ukraine, thousands of people are in need of mobility equipment that the government is unable to provide. Seeing this shortage, Knights worked with the Canadian Wheelchair Foundation to bring wheelchairs into the country and distribute them to amputees and others with disabilities. “I’ve worked with the Knights of Columbus since 2006, and I cannot say enough about them,” said Christina Flessner, executive director of the Canadian Wheelchair Foundation. “It seems they are truly Knights in action. One of the biggest gifts is giving people hope.” Become a Knight today: http://kofc.org/join Subscribe now to keep up with the Knights! http://bit.ly/SubscribeKnightsOfColumbus Stay connected on social media: https://www.facebook.com/KnightsofColumbus https://twitter.com/kofc https://www.instagram.com/kofc_official Visit us at: http://www.kofc.org
