When Hurricane Fiona ravaged Puerto Rico in September 2022, 80% of the population lost power, and one-third was left without safe drinking water. Knights of Columbus immediately stepped in to offer support and supplies. They cleared debris and distributed food and water to victims throughout the island, including the Dominican Sisters of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fátima in the Diocese of Ponce. In September 2022, Hurricane Ian struck the Fort Myers area with devastating winds and flooding. The storm surge toppled the 8-foot walls of the Poor Clare Nuns’ San Damiano Monastery, trapping the sisters and their parish pastor. Knowing they would still be at the Monastery, local Knights trekked to the island that is home to the monastery and rescued the Poor Clares and their pastor, who had been trapped for four days.
