On D-Day he had just turned 19 and was serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. For 70 years he never talked about it. At 4:00 AM on D-Day, they started lowering their boats and headed toward the beach. He froze when he had to open the ramp. Machine gun bullets were "hitting like a typewriter" and killed 13 or 14 men on his boat. Recounting the day, he said, “Do I go back into the belly of the beast? I said to myself, if I don’t go back, somebody’s gonna have to take my place. And if they’re killed, I couldn’t live with that for the rest of my life.” We salute Frank De Vita and all of the brave men and women of the Armed Forces who have courageously served their nation.

Jim Wahlberg’s youth was filled with brokenness. In his formative years, he learned how to steal cars, break and enter, became homeless by age 12, and succumbed to addiction. After becoming a ward of the state and serving multiple prison terms, a chance meeting with Mother Teresa while incarcerated changed the trajectory of his life, beginning his path back to Christ.
