In May 1990, St. John Paul II celebrated Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta’ Pinu on the island of Gozo during his pastoral journey to Malta. In his homily, he called on Catholics to look to the Blessed Mother amid life’s challenges: “May she, who ‘pondered in her heart’, the mystery of God’s love as it was revealed in the life of her Son, guide parents and children to respond fully to the vocation which they have received as sons and daughters of God, redeemed by Christ and born again in the Holy Spirit.”

When Knights from San Eugenio de Mazenod Council 17299 in Miramar, Florida, realized that many families in their community could not afford to sign up their kids for soccer clubs, they decided to create a free youth soccer program. Almost 200 children participated in the first session in October 2019. The program has been such a hit that the Knights now run it year-round, teaching teamwork, supporting parents and building up their parish community. Los Caballeros del Consejo 17299 San Eugenio de Mazenod en Miramar, Florida, iniciaron su programa de fútbol gratuito para niños locales en el 2019 con porterías improvisadas y equipos donados en el campo vacío de una iglesia. El programa ha sido tan exitoso que ahora funciona durante todo el año, enseñándole trabajo en equipo a los niños, apoyando a las familias y construyendo la comunidad de la parroquia. Each year on Good Friday, council 16799, in Querétaro, Mexico, participates in a Good Friday Procession of Silence. It is an opportunity for the Knights to reflect prayerfully on Christ’s suffering and death as they carry a statue of Our Lady of Solitude through the streets as part of the solemn occasion.
