Georgia Knights Carry the Cross for Seminarians

On Nov. 5, 2022, the Knights of Transfiguration Council 10362 in Marietta, Georgia, held their second annual Carry the Cross fundraiser at Kennesaw Mountain. Working in teams, Knights and other parishioners carried 40-pound wooden crosses up the 1,808-foot summit to raise money for the seminarians of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Oklahoma Knights Honor Our Lady of Guadalupe

On Dec. 11, 2022, thousands gathered at the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine in Oklahoma City for the dedication of Tepeyac Hill, a re-creation of the site in Mexico City where Mary appeared to St. Juan Diego in 1531. In honor of the 10th anniversary of the canonization of St. Kateri Tekakwitha on Oct. 21, the Knights of Columbus and the Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions hosted a special Mass at the Saint John Paul II National Shrine in Washington, D.C. Bishop Chad W. Zielinski of New Ulm, Minnesota, and chairman of the U.S. bishops’ Subcommittee on Native American Affairs, was the principal celebrant, while Father Maurice Henry Sands, executive director of the Black and Indian Mission Office, delivered the homily. Known as the Lily of the Mohawks, St. Kateri was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI at St. Peter’s Basilica on Oct. 12, 2012, making her the first Native American woman of North America to be canonized by the Catholic Church. Alberta Knights Help Restore Indigenous Parish Church

In the 1990s, the Archdiocese of Edmonton designated Sacred Heart Church of the First Peoples as a national parish for First Nation, Inuit and Métis Catholics in Canada. Parishioners at Sacred Heart were heartbroken when an accidental fire broke out in the church in August 2020, resulting in $9 million in repairs and renovation work. Wally Streit, past state deputy of Alberta stepped up and led local Knights of Columbus and others in efforts to raise the money needed to restore the church. On July 25, 2022, Pope Francis visited the newly restored Sacred Heart Church during his pilgrimage to Canada.
